You Are My Sunshine

It could be said that the energy you have comes from the sun.  Without the sun, you would be unable to run, jump, dance, or even complete your homework.  It all becomes possible through though the transfer of the sun’s energy.

Plants, also known as producers, use the energy of the sun to produce food through the process of photosynthesis. That energy is then stored in plants in the form of glucose, or food.  Herbivores, also known as primary consumers, then eat those plants.  They utilize some of that food for their own energy and some gets stored in the cells of their muscle tissue.  Carnivores, also known as secondary consumers, then eat the Herbivores.  After that food is digested, it is converted into energy through the process of cellular respiration.

Other than the energy of the sun, what else is required to give you energy?  Which life process do you think is most important:  photosynthesis or cellular respiration?  Explain.  What would result if producers were not part of a living system?  Primary consumers?  Secondary consumers?
